April 26th: National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

Drop off your unused or expired medication at the National Prescription Drug Take-Back event on Saturday, April 26th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Altoona Emergency Services building in Altoona or at the Eau Claire County Government Center in Eau Claire.

Take-back days increase the awareness of safe medication disposal in Eau Claire County. Residents are encouraged to safely dispose of expired or unwanted medications at a drop-off location. Dropping of medications is anonymous and quick!

What’s accepted:

  • Prescription and over-the-counter medications

  • Ointments

  • Patches

  • Non-aerosol sprays

  • Vials

  • Pet medications

  • Sharps, which include needles, lancets, syringes, auto-injectors, and other sharps devices. Only one small container of sharps per household will be accepted at the April event.

  • Blister packages are acceptable if the medications haven’t been removed.

  • Liquid medications, creams, and sprays must be in their original packaging.
